www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday January 9, 2008 - 21 Charley's Aunt filled with plot twists and turns Continued from page 19 to try on a woman's costume. "They tell me to try it on and I try it on, just in the knick of time when their aunt says she can't come," said Stolz. Their aunt, Donna Lucia D'Alvadorez, a role taken on by Cynthia Dempster, is supposed to chaperone the two boys on a date with Kitty Verdun (Jenn Worsnop) and Amy Spettigue (Carling Tedesco). "That's the real complication," says Kunder. "The real aunt doesn't show up." And when she doesn't show up in time for the arrival of the girls, it's up to Babberly to play the role of the aunt so the date can go on. "I kind of get thrown into the role," said Stolz. It's essential that he chaperone because the boys are headed to London the next day, after graduating from Oxford. The girls are being sent to Scotland by Spettigue, their guardian. "That's where their guardian sends them every summer to keep them away from the boys," said Kunder. "You can't trust boys and girls alone. That's sort of the crux of the play. "This date has to happen today, or it will be too late." Babberly certainly has fun with the fact that his friends are relying on him to be a woman, all under the watchful eye of Brassett the butler, played by Nick Forrow. "Babberly sort of torments the guys, he has a little too much fun with it," said Stolz, by "constantly forgetting I'm supposed to be a woman, having male mannerisms. "I want to steal their girls and steal their booze and have a good time." Meanwhile, Babberly is having to fend off two men who believe the female costume and begin lusting after him. "The best part is watching him get chased around by two guys," said Katherine Kormos, who is married to Stolz in real life and plays Ela Delahay, who becomes Babberly's love interest and also brings the "real" aunt to the date, but a little bit late. "You've got the imposter aunt and the real aunt on stage at the same time talking," said Kunder. "Of course, it all works out." The play ends with the typical comedic resolution. "I think at the end, we have five marriages that could happen," said Kunder. This includes a proposal from Sir Francis Chesney to the imposter aunt Babberly. "I love that scene," said Stolz, smiling. Watoto Children's Choir concert on Friday A Ugandan children's choir is bringing a taste of Africa to Oakville to raise awareness and funds for the Ugandan orphan crisis. The Watoto Children's Choir will perform a Concert of Hope, featuring exotic African rhythm and harmonies, on Friday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. at Riveroaks Church, 2435 Munns Ave. E. The choir is on a Canadian tour to raise awareness and support for Watoto, a child-sponsorship organization that cares for more than 1,700 children in Uganda, East Africa. Watoto was founded in 1992 by Canadians Gary and Marilyn Skinner to address the Ugandan orphan crisis. The children Watoto cares for have been orphaned or abandoned as a result of the AIDS epidemic, civil strife, extreme poverty, or other catastrophic events. Approximately 2.3 million children in Uganda have been orphaned an estimated 1 million due to AIDS alone. Currently, there are three Watoto Children's Villages in Kampala, Uganda, providing care and education for orphaned and abandoned children. The Oakville concert is free and open to the public.
