The letter assures parents police have determined that `no threat exists.' The school also made students and staff aware of the incident at the end of the school on Wednesday through a P.A. announcement and held an information assembly on Friday where students were permitted to ask questions. Despite the messages, school officials have no plans to close the school at any point leading up to the holiday break. "The police have done a very thorough investigation, they're looking at this as an extremely low threat situation and they're terming it as very inappropriate graffiti," said Superintendent of Education Dane Tutton. "It will be business as usual here at the school." As for the students themselves, some are reluctant to believe the author of the messages is serious while others are not so sure. "I don't think it's that big of a deal because this has been done before and nothing has happened," said Natalie Samha, a Grade 11 student. "I'm not really worried." Grade 10 student Jacob Liptok had similar feelings. "Seriously, I think it's just some kid trying to get an extra week off for the holidays," he said. "I don't think anyone VISIT US ONLINE A TV news van was parked outside Oakville Trafalgar High School on Friday. would ever do that at this school." While Grade 12 student Robin Macapagal praised the principal for talking to students about what is happening and keeping the school open, he admits feeling divided about the messages. "I think it's someone who just wants to go home early and I think it's just a big joke, but at the same time I feel like I'm afraid sometimes because it is a death threat," he said. "It's just one of those things you feel iffy about." Macapagal may not be the only one who feels this way as he and other students noticed a considerable decrease in the number of classmates attending school on Friday. "I only had one class today, but there were like three people in it," said Macapagal. "There's normally 20." Liptok also noted decreased attendance in his classes. "Half my class is missing today and it has been like that in most of my classes," he said. "Most kids are phoning their parents to go home because the principal actually said that if your parents don't feel it's safe for you to go to school you can stay home and you won't be penalized or anything, but school is open." If anyone has information that could assist police in this investigation they are asked to call Constable Charlotte Whalen at 905-825-4747, ext. 2244 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
