Goaltender Steve Mason and forwards Stefan Legein and John Tavares were all named to the Canadian junior (under-20) selection camp roster Monday, joining 34 other hopefuls. The tryout camp will take place Dec. 10-14 in Calgary, in preparation for the junior tournament that will begin Dec. 26 in the Czech Republic. The 19-year-old Mason, a member of the London Knights, might have made the junior team last year had he not suffered a concussion shortly before the selection camp. The Columbus Blue Jackets prospect did suit up in the Super Series against Russia this past fall, posting a 2-0 record, 2.82 goals-against average and .972 save percentage. Legein, 19, also played in the Super Series, scoring three goals and collecting 30 penalty minutes in the eight games. A secondround pick of Columbus last summer, Legein already has 17 goals and 11 assists in 22 games with the Niagara IceDogs this year. The youngest camp invitee, as he was last year, is Tavares. The 17-year-old was bitterly disappointed when he was not selected to the national squad in 2006, but has said the experience has motivated him to be even better this year. The CHL and OHL player of the year in the 2006-07 season, Tavares is off to a blistering start this year with the Oshawa Generals, leading the OHL with 62 points (23 goals) in 28 games. Not getting a call this year was Holy Trinity grad Trevor Cann, who did vie for a goaltending spot (replacing the injured Mason) at the 2006 camp. Cann, 18, has an 8-14-0-1 record with the Peterborough Petes this year, with a 3.68 goals-against average and .906 save percentage. DEREK WOOLLAM / SPECIAL TO THE OAKVILLE BEAVER SPECIAL THREADS: Oakville Trafalgar Red Devils player Tyler Dunn (in red) evades the check of a Robert Bateman Wild opponent and chases down the puck Monday at Burlington's Appleby Ice Centre. Dunn and the rest of the Red Devils are commemorating Oakville Trafalgar High School's 100th anniversary by wearing special uniforms this high school boys' hockey season. Dylan Gilbert and Andrew Harvey each scored twice in OT's 6-1 win over Bateman, with Connor Johnson and Drew Dixon adding singles. RUNNING OUT!! 2008 OUTDOOR SPONSORSHIP INCENTIVE OFFER!!
