GETTING READY: Members of Masterworks of Oakville Chorus and Orchestra rehearse Saturday morning for their upcoming concert performances of Handel's Messiah at Mary Mother of God Church on North Ridge Trail on Friday and Saturday. Masterworks of Oakville Chorus performs Handel's Messiah in concert Masterworks of Oakville Chorus and Orchestra and Mary Mother of God Catholic Church will present Handel's Messiah on Friday, Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 1. Both concerts will begin at 8 p.m. at Mary Mother of God Catholic Church, 2745 North Ridge Trail. The performance, under the direction of Charles Demuynck, features Oakville soprano Marian Sjolander, alto Lauren Segal, tenor Lenard Whiting, bassist James Baldwin, and an orchestra of musicians largely from the Oakville community. "Masterworks of Oakville is a community artistic endeavor that has as its roots a Handel's Messiah concert in the year 2000 at St. Andrew Catholic Church," said Demuynck, "The first Messiah was performed with an ecumenical choir and the Oakville Chamber Orchestra, then after a second Handel's Messiah in 2005, which met with extremely positive response from audience and musicians alike, we decided to expand Masterworks to perform more regularly, feature other great works for chorus and orchestra, and perform in churches other than St. Andrew church." This is Masterworks' first concert at Mary Mother of God Church. Masterworks is a non-profit organization which operates as a fund raising vehicle for the churches which host their concerts, and charities that they support. Tickets to the Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 concerts are available in Oakville at Bookers, L'Atelier Grigorian, Leslie Music and Notes Music, as well as at Mary Mother of God Church, and at the door.
