Oakville blanked the Pittsburgh Jr. Penguins 3-0 in the final, avenging a 6-5 round-robin loss to the Pens earlier in the competition. Scotty Wilson locked up tournament MVP honours with a two-goal outing in the championship game, while Brandon Alderson added a single. Brian Betts recorded his second shutout to end the tournament with a 1.00 goals-against average, earning top netminder recognition, and Jacob Liptok joined Wilson on the tournament all-star team. In the Rangers' other contests, they defeated the Alliance-leading Cambridge Hawks 3-1 and pounded the Kitchener Jr. Rangers 5-0 in round-robin action, then edged the Barrie Colts 4-3 in the quarter-finals and doubled Brantford 4-2 in the semis. Jamie Armstrong, Peter Copeland and Eliott Cheeseman scored against Cambridge, with Jeff Pinto (two), Dylan Cooper, Brett Lee and Wilson supplying the offence versus Kitchener. Wilson had a hat trick and Braeden Corbeth and Lee also tallied in the loss to Pittsburgh, as Oakville yielded four power-play markers. In the quarter-final, Wilson netted the gamewinner late in regulation time. Liptok, Corbeth and Pinto also scored. Armstrong, Cheeseman, Copeland and Wilson provided the Rangers' offence in the semifinal win over Brantford, as Marcus Nepinak recorded the victory in net. Contributing assists during the weekend were Tyler Badham, Matthew Provost, Carmine Chiappetta, Tyler Shiplo, Phil Hampton and Ryan DiBattista. The Rangers entered the weekend coming off an impressive league win over the Halton Hurricanes, who boasted a 9-0 mark coming into their meeting with Oakville. Wilson had two powerplay goals in the Rangers' four-goal first period, during which Cooper and Cheeseman also tallied, and Oakville held on for a 4-3 triumph. After losing their first two games of the year, the Rangers had run off nine consecutive league wins and sat second in the SCTA standings with a 9-2-1 mark entering Tuesday's game against Niagara Falls. Rams QB was lineman last year 905-257-3633 NEW PRICE Continued from page 52 33-yard touchdown pass to Chris Schroeder, a pass that barely eluded the grasp of an Aquinas defensive back. Robinson built on the early momentum, scoring on its next possession -- another connection between Allen and Schroeder, this one going 35 yards for the major. Two minutes later, Aquinas quarterback Ryley Wright was intercepted by the Rams' Casey Pilon, who returned it for a score to give Robinson a 20-0 lead less than eight minutes into the game. "They had some nice schemes, and everything they seemed to try seemed to be successful against us, especially early," Knap said. "It's tough to dig yourself out of that hole. To our credit, the kids faltered a bit, but they never really quit." The Aquinas defence did manage to gather itself and keep the Rams out of the end zone again until late in the third quarter, when Allen threw his third TD pass to Schroeder. Two converts and two rouges accounted for the other Robinson scoring. Following the game, Schroeder raved about the play of his 6-foot-5, 250-pound quarterback, who switched to the pivot position this year after playing on the offensive line in 2006. "(Allen) has great vision on the field. He's not always (locked in) on the first receiver; he will look for the next receiver," said Schroeder. "Our plays are designed for us to get deep because his arm is so impressive and he can get it there." Aquinas' best scoring chance came late in the first half, when Kyle Enright got behind the Rams defenders but was unable to haul in a well-thrown ball from Wright. The Raiders made a bad snap on the next play and Robinson recovered the fumble, snuffing out the drive. The Division 2 championship snapped a fiveyear run of futility for Robinson, a school once known for its strong football program. A drummer band of Robinson students attended the game to provide a bit of a U.S. college feel, and students sprinted onto the field to celebrate with Rams players as soon as the final whistle blew. "It's important because you don't get a lot of chances as a school to get together as a community and have a good time in a positive way," said Rams coach Marcello Campanaro, a former coach of the McMaster Marauders. "I was excited and proud that I'm working here." Aquinas highlights in the loss included an interception by Eric Crepinsek as well as a couple lengthy receptions by Trevor Williams and Enright.
