20 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday November 7, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com De-stress-fest Nov. 28 Free the Children's campaign to build a school in Kenya will receive a major boost thanks to Oakville's Kelsey Bernhardt. The Humber College graduate student has organized a `de-stress-fest' fundraiser on Wednesday, Nov. 28, featuring healthy snacks, massages, de-stressing tips, a raffle and the selling of paper bricks to help build a mock school. The event runs from 10 a.m. 2 p.m. at Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning's Lakeshore campus. As a student in the college's fundraising program, one of the requirements for Bernhardt is to manage special events. She says she chose Free the Children's mission because it works towards her goal of fundraising for educational efforts. "Building opportunities for African youth and raising money for education in Africa are close to my heart," says Bernhardt. This charity promises to facilitate her goal to raise millions for charities supporting education. Bernhardt believes growing up in Oakville is one of the reasons she feels the need to reach out to the global community and to those in need. Her inspiration to pursue fundraising came from her father, Bob Bernhardt, CEO of the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, who hired a graduate of Humber's fundraising program and saw the success of the program at work. Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning hosts Canada's only full-time classroom-based graduate certificate in fundraising and volunteer management, and includes a three-month internship. To help Bernhardt achieve her goal, contact fundraising program manager Ken Wyman at 416-675-6622 ext. 3013 or email ken.wyman@humber.ca.
