The Paul Harris Fellowship is named for Paul Harris, who founded Rotary 100 years ago. The fellowship was established in his honour in 1957 to recognize recipients as advocates of the Rotary Foundation's goals of world peace and international understanding, as well as for improving the quality of community life by their untiring efforts and selflessness. The 2007 fellowships are being awarded to four community members who are not currently members of Rotary, as well as to five Rotarians from RCOT. The non-Rotarians include Liz Benneian, who is well known in the Oakville community for her commitment to green and sustainable practices. Tina Blatchford of Halton Children's Aid Society, was selected for her tireless work with less-fortunate youths in the region and for her energetic enthusiasm helping to raise funds and awareness for the Oakville Charity Dragon Boat Festival each summer. Corinne Burton and Anne King each receive well deserved awards for their work in education and health services, respectively. RCOT Paul Harris Fellowship recipients are Mike Radford, Ashok Kochhar, Steve Cheng, Ian Ferguson and Verna Andrews (RCOT President).
