30 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday November 2, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com The Halton Regional Police Service and Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning Presents... Setting a good example For Terry Jackson, volunteer Chair of the Community Foundation of Oakville (CFO), serving his community is all about joy. "I believe you simply have joy when you are in a position to be able to give to something you believe in wholeheartedly," he said. Jackson eloquently describes giving in three ways: your time, your talent, and/or your treasure. As the current Chair of the CFO, Jackson practices what he preaches. Six years ago, at the prompting of Adrian Coote, now a former Chair of the CFO, Jackson established an endowed fund, then joined the board and has continued to serve ever since. Not only has he given of his time but also, as someone who worked in the same financial institution for more than 30 years, Jackson has been able to provide excellent direction on committees such as the CFO's finance committee. When it comes to treasures, Jackson is thrilled that he, along with his wife, Bonnie, was able to set up a family foundation with the CFO. "It made a lot of sense at the time and we have continued to add to the fund and, hopefully, PREVENTION DAY "Committed to building an Ontario, Free from Racism, Intolerance and Hate." CRIME Over the course of the year the Police and the College field many inquiries about a range of safety issue topics. This is your opportunity to learn about several issues that affect you, your community and how we can prepare to make our communities safer. The couple enjoy watching where, when and how their funds are helping others in the community now, rather than simply leaving money to an organization when they are gone. "It is about leaving a legacy for our three adult daughters who will eventually be in charge of managing the funds. It sets a good example for our family," Jackson said. Jackson's passion for getting involved with causes began 30 years ago when his young daughter was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes. He still continues to help find a cure for diabetes by chairing the annual gala in Toronto next month where their goal is to raise a million dollars. As both the Chair of the CFO and a fund holder, Jackson Terry Jackson proudly describes this unique organization in terms of "how in touch we are with the needs of Oakville. This organization helps people with their philanthropy while helping the community achieve some of its outreach goals". The Community Foundation of Oakville is a charitable organization that enables families to establish their own foundations as lasting legacies in support of their favourite charities. Through these means, it will provide close to $2 million in funding this year to meet community needs.
