www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday October 19, 2007 - 47 Drop in on The Oakville Players Oct. 27 A community theatre open house will be held Saturday, Oct. 27. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., local residents are invited to drop by The Oakville Players (TOP) rehearsal studio at 1037 North Service Rd. to get a taste of community theatre. TOP members will explain what's involved with all the backstage jobs people can volunteer for when the group puts on shows at The Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts. There's also a chance to watch a short scene in rehearsal and meet the actors. They're in the midst of preparing the drama, The Winslow Boy, which will be moving to the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts in November as part of the Oakville Drama Series. Also on display will be a model of the set, and the backstage crew will be explaining how they hunt down their huge variety of costumes and props. The Oakville Players has been a longtime partner in the Oakville Drama Series and is always looking for new volunteers. The group aims to promote the development and growth of theatre in Oakville and to give opportunities for joining in the staging of plays and for learning about the many skills behind theatrical performances. Over the years, The Oakville Players has been developing newcomers through workshops in set, lighting and sound design. Some of the awards and recognition their members and productions have received over the years illustrate the range of theatre crafts they enjoy: Best Show, Set Design, Costume Design, Master Carpenter, Best Actor, Set Dressing and Special Effects. If newcomers are interested in becoming a member of The Oakville Players, they will be joining a group of people involved in a hobby that allows for creativity and glamour. There are a host of jobs to involve people in theatre craft at all levels in every production. For more information and membership information call 905-825-0374. Annual membership costs of $10 per person or $20 per household and includes a newsletter and participation in various activities.
