12 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday October 19, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com New public school board superintendent The Halton District School Board has made an addition to its senior management team. At a board meeting on Wednesday (Oct. 17), trustees announced the appointment of Patricia Dyson as a superintendent of education, effective Nov. 1. The board says this latest administrative appointment completes the complement of superintendents on the senior administrative team bringing the number of superintendents to 10 and the total number on the senior administrative team to 13. "With leadership strengths in school environments, she will be an asset to the Halton District School Board," Halton board Director of Education Wayne Joudrie said in a press release. Following the retirement of Al Greyson earlier this year as student services superintendent, the board approved the assignment of superintendent Kathy Schaffer to the student services role from her previous posting on the school operations team with responsibility for the Oakville family of schools. Dyson's appointment will mean the reassignment of a superintendent to the Oakville family of schools. Dyson comes to the Halton District School Board from the Simcoe County Board where she has served in a number of roles including principal of special education, where she was responsible for leading principals and staff in providing programs and supports for special needs students. Her responsibilities also included leadership development programs for school administrators. Dyson was also a principal at West Bayfield elementary, a KindergartenGrade 8 school, as well as an education officer with the Ontario Ministry of Education, in the curriculum and assessment policy branch. In that role she was responsible for student success initiatives, locally developed compulsory credit courses and supports for principals and vice-principals. Harvest Haunts continues with Monsters Inc. Tonight's movie feature in Towne Square as part of the annual Harvest Haunts event is Monsters Inc. Downtown Oakville will be busy with the movie being shown on the big screen, as well as ghost walks and crafts in the area. Free hot chocolate will be served at The Black Forest pastry shop and complimentary popcorn will be provided by Beachy Keen Swimwear. Harvest Haunts comes to an end on Friday, Oct. 26 with a double feature. The first on the bill is Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie, followed by Hocus Pocus, which stars Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker. All movies are rated `G' and provided by Encore Cinemas of Oakville. Throughout October, people can take a Ghost Walk through Old Oakville and enjoy the legends and spirits of Oakville's past. Ghost walks are coordinated by The Oakville Historical Society, a volunteer organization that has been contributing to local heritage activities for more than fifty years.
