By the time they walked out, little had been decided in the way of girls' basketball supremacy. The host Fighting Irish was victorious in the senior clash, topping the previously-unbeaten Holy Trinity Titans 37-26 to improve to 7-0 on the season. The Titans, however, handily won the meeting of undefeated junior teams, 47-23, to show this latest chapter is by no means the end of the story. In fact, with the talent assembled on the four teams, you might want to find yourself a comfy chair, sit back and enjoy the growing rivalry like a good book. "We're going to be in for a lot of battles with Holy Trinity for a few years," said Notre Dame senior coach Mike Johnston. Jr. Titans enjoy the challenge Holy Trinity victories over Notre Dame are becoming the norm at the junior level and may eventually swing the balance of power back to the Titans in a few years' time. Monday's win was the sixth in a row for Trinity's juniors over the Irish, a string that includes last year's Halton final. Part of the reason for that success is that Notre Dame brings out the best in the Titans. "I always love coming here," said Trinity's Olivia Wozniak, who had 17 points. "They're great competition and we know we're going to have to try our hardest and play our hearts out." There was no denying the Titans did that. Between the midway points of the second quarter -- when the game was tied 13-13 -- and the fourth, Holy Trinity outscored Notre Dame 32-2 and went more than 17 minutes without surrendering a field goal. Wozniak and Amanda Perrotta (eight points), both carryovers from last year's team, have taken over the leadership of a team that easily could have been decimated by its losses to the senior squad. "We miss them but, to tell the truth, we have other good juniors that have come in," said Wozniak, who combines with Sam Ernest to give the Titans a pair of six-footers that control the rebounds.
