When all the results were in for the Halton riding, Green Party candidate Andrew Chlobowski had beat out the NDP's Pat Heroux for third place by 216 votes. Halton was one of the few ridings in Ontario where the Green Party received the third highest percentage of votes. "I am happy," Chlobowski said on his way home from his results party at the Green Party office in Burlington. "I would have been happier if we had won one seat, but I think we made a huge step forward in our popularity." He called eclipsing the NDP in the riding "incredible." "It's a strong sign we're going somewhere," he said. Much of the support for the Green Party in Halton has come from people living in the newer subdivisions -- young professionals seem to comprise much of the party's supporters, he said, explaining they were the ones asking for lawn signs. The Oakville resident surmised some of those people are welcoming the Green Party's environmental stance out of a desire to protect their children. It was an intimate group of about a dozen of Heroux's supporters that gathered at Bryden's pub on Main Street to watch the results come in Wednesday night. As they munched on nachos, a slight cheer rang out each time Halton riding's results flashed across the big-screen TV. But towards the end of the night, Heroux she was somewhat disappointed with the results. "They've made their choice," she said of voters. Nevertheless, Heroux said being a candidate has been a great experience. "It's made me feel confident and that I can make a difference," said the Burlington resident, adding, "I'm content with the showing. It was my first time running."
