www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday October 12, 2007 - 39 New chair for Oakville Waterfront Festival The Oakville Waterfront Festival's board of directors recently announced Kirk Sloane will be chair of the 2007/2008 festival. Having been a member of the board since 2002 and having sat on various Festival committees prior to that, Sloane brings a wealth of expertise to the position. A lawyer by profession, he has worked in both private practice and as senior counsel for both a major bank and insurance company. Currently, he is a senior associate with Hire Results Ltd., an Oakville-based Human Capital company specializing in creating hiring simulations and executive searches designed to help employers reduce/manage the risk associated with the hiring of key personnel. A 19-year resident of Oakville, Sloane is now enjoying the benefits of working closer to home. Along with Sloane and Smith, members of the board for the current season include David Allen, Vice President Finance, Algoma Central Corporation; Cathy Duddeck, Councilor, Town of Oakville; Mark Lavaway, General Manager, Panasonic Theatre; Vicki Lymburner, President, Ontario Tourism Education Corporation; Glen McLaughlin, Consultant; and Linda Spalding, Executive Director, Oakville Waterfront Festival. The Oakville Waterfront Festival is a not-for-profit organization, founded by volunteers in 1992. More than 30 volunteers sit on committees yearround to produce the event, and some 600-800 members of the community volunteer to work festival weekend to raise funds for their charitable or community group. The next Waterfront Festival runs June 20-22. *** There is immediate need for enthusiastic individuals to sit on the Promotions Committee, Events Committee and the Community Groups Committee. The role of the Promotions Committee is to seek out and actively participate in promotional events to increase public awareness of the Festival. This committee also seeks two people to head up the popular Grade Two program which involves a daily time commitment during the last two weeks of May. Experience in a teaching environment or dealing with children is an asset. Those who enjoy performing in front of a crowd are ideal candidates for this committee. The Events Committee helps plan and coordinate the craft show, children's village, community stage and various other venues within the Festival. Interested individuals should forward an email including interests and skills to jill@oakvillefestival.com before Nov. 2, or mail to Jill MacInnes, Operations & Communications Manager, The Oakville Waterfront Festival, P.O. Box 52011, Oakville, ON, L6J 7N5. Tuesday, October 16, 2007 10AM - 5PM Are you Ready?
