Early Thursday morning, police say, several thieves entered a townhouse complex on McCraney Street in the area of Trafalgar Road. Once inside the thieves forced their way into one particular dwelling where they immediately descended to a basement storage unit. The thieves removed two shotguns and were in the process of departing the crime scene when a neighbour spotted them. The neighbour yelled out at which point the thieves fled into a ravine area located behind the complex. Halton Police arrived on the scene shortly thereafter and began a search of the area, but could not locate the culprits. While one of the stolen shotguns was located and seized by police the other remains unaccounted for. Police describe the stolen firearm as an antique Winchester 12 gauge shotgun with a wooden stalk, rubber butt plate and the initials `G.O' engraved near the grip area. No ammunition was reported stolen. Police say the residents of the townhouse unit were home at the time of the robbery, but were asleep and had no contact with the intruders.
