The money will cover the vehicle, equipment, personnel and investigative costs related to work in the Guns & Gangs Integrated Task Force, a police unit that spans many community police services in an effort to snuff out the criminal activities of street gangs. Patrons of the Oakville GO Station received a mixture of good and bad news, Wednesday morning, as Mayor Rob Burton announced plans for the building of a new parking structure and the impending disappearance of an existing parking lot. On the downside to the day's announcement, Burton also noted that the small gravel parking lot that serves GO commuters at the corner of Trafalgar and Cornwall Roads will soon be closing. "GO does not own that property. It was leasing it and the lease is ending on Oct. 16. So, last week GO customers were given notice of the impending closure and 160 spaces will be lost," said Burton.
