"We love working out in the gym with the weight machines and taking the various classes," says a youthful Pierrette. They're usually at the Y five days a week, Pierrette in the morning and Marielle after work in the evening. This year the duo has discovered an exciting new way to keep fit: Kinesis, which conditions the entire body in one enerr gizing 30-minute session. "To me, Kinesis builds up my core strength, tones my abs and makes me more aware of my body," says Marielle. "When you exercise with the Kinesis machines, you really involve your whole body, and I like that. It feels great to come off the GO train after work and recharge myself with Kinesis. It gives me a boost for the rest of the evening." "It also helps with your balance," chimes in Pierrette. Kinesis is performed on a "`wall" that contains a series of four independent modules. Parr ticipants grasp handles connected to a continuous cable-loop system, and perform a series of instructor-led movements. Each cable controls a single weight stack and allows the body to move freely. Although the typical Kinesis class will cause you to sweat and become aware of your different muscle groups, it's actually very fluid and gentle. "The instructor encourages you to work at your own pace and there are only four people in the class so you get individual attention," says Pierrette, who lives with rheumatoid arthritis, a potentially debilitating condition. "Exercising at the Y in general and Kinesis in particular helps me to maintain my range of motion," she adds. No matter what your age, if you're looking for a total-body workout that burns fat and improves strength, flexibility and balance in just half an hour, why not try Kinesis at the YMCA of Oakville? You may just run into Marielle and Pierrette. They'll be happy to give you a few pointers! 410 Rebecca Street | Oakville, ON L6K 1K7 | Telephone: 905-845-3417 | Fax: 905-842-6792 | Email: customerservice@oakville.ymca.ca | www.ymcaofoakville.com Monday to Friday 5:30 am 10:00 pm | Saturday 7:00 am 6:00 pm | Sunday 8:00 am 6:00 pm Design by
