40 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday August 29, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com GIVING BACK Let's all make our community and world a better place. When Albert D'Orazio emigrated from Italy to Canada in 1954, he brought with him the dream of one day owning his own company. Learning the skills of the sewer and watermain construction trade led him to the founding of his own company in 1966. Two generations later, D'Orazio Infrastructure Group has become a respected name in the sewer, watermain, and excavation sectors of the construction industry building core infrastructure for both municipal and private clients across Ontario. We are very proud of our reputation as a conscientious trustworthy firm and most proud of the people we employ. At D'Orazio we are very conscious of our impact we have on our clients and suppliers, our industry, and the communities in which we work. We believe that every person we come in contact with deserves to be treated with consideration and respect and that life should be looked upon as an opportunity to create "win-win" situations. Everyone should have the opportunity to succeed and leave "a little something" behind for our children and society as a whole. That does not mean we all have to write a cheque and make a donation to some cause or charity. Giving has nothing to do with one's "economic abilities". It may mean a simple gesture to a stranger that makes a positive difference in their life. That is good enough! These types of opportunities surround us every day. Volunteering your time to a group or organization that helps others is a great way to give back and help those in our society that are less fortunate or those who may be sick; I am sure that all of us have had our lives touched in some way by such people. Sometimes all people need is a little support, a second chance, or maybe just a little push to get them over a hurdle that faces them. The love, support, opportunities we can give those in need is free. Our family has been blessed and as such we welcome the opportunity to help others and to help build prosperous, healthy, and safe communities that everyone can enjoy. As we bring clean water to the communities we work in, we also strive to make our world a better place to live in by treating the people in our lives with compassion and respect and by the giving of our time to community groups and charities in need. Please do what you can to make our community and our world a better place! Here are some of the groups and organizations that we have given our time to: Rotary Club of Oakville West Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 32,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. The Oakville YMCA The YMCA of Oakville is a charitable association open to all, dedicated to providing life-long opportunities for health enhancement and personal growth. Trillium Foundation The Foundation has directed investments in the Regional Cardiac Care Centre at the Mississauga Hospital site and the Heart Function Clinic at the Queensway Hospital site in Etobicoke. Lupus Flare Foundation The Lupus Flare Foundation raises money to fund medical research, treat lupus and to find a cure. Unfortunately, it is not a well known disease though it is more common than leukemia, multiple sclerosis, cystic fibrosis and muscular dystrophy. ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) Society of Ontario and Halton Walk for ALS The ALS Society of Ontario is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing the necessary equipment and support services to those living with ALS as well as to provide funding to the ALS Society of Canada toward research for a cure. The United Way of Oakville A strong and healthy social service sector contributes to the overall health and wellbeing of any community. United Way of Oakville (UWO) works hard to ensure that sufficient resources are available to maintain and build upon Oakville's social services.
