16 - The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday August 18, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com 4th Annual Oakville Charity Dragon Boat Festival A special thanks to our sponsors GOLD August 19, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kelso Conservation Park It's that time of year again. We are getting ready for the 4th Annual Oakville Charity Dragon Boat Festival. More than 70 boats are expected to come and compete on August 19, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kelso Conservation Park, a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts! Dragon Boat is the fast-growing traditional Asian sport drawing Canadians in large numbers. With a small single blade, twenty paddlers in a seated position, paddling on both sides, this boat can be mastered more easily than the canoe or kayak. The festival attracts hundreds of visitors and not only includes action-packed races but a wide selection of food and beverages, complete with a beer tent and musical entertainment. This year's main sponsors include: Tiger Tel UTR, The Co-operators Insurance and The Sign Department. The proceeds of the event will be donated to Halton's Children's Aid Society as well as several other charities. Last year's event raised an impressive $50,000! This year's target is $100,000! So come out and join the fun and help meet our target! Pledging opportunities will exist on-site, the day of the event.
