RON KUZYK / OAKVILLE BEAVER GET MOVING: Kids from the Summer Sizzlers (Senior Campers) at St. Joan of Arc School join Oakville Mayor Rob Burton and Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn to announce the Communities in Action Grant for the Make Your Move program. Mentor College Leading by example. Inspiring excellence. Town and province join forces to get young people moving The government of Ontario is calling on the people of Oakville to get out and get active by providing the town with a Communities in Action grant, which the town will use in its Make your Move program. "We are pleased to partner with the Ontario Government in this initiative to get our residents moving and staying active," said Mayor Rob Burton. "Our town has an abundance of organized sport opportunities and casual recreational activities that we can all enjoy." This will be the second time Oakville has been the recipient of this grant with money from the first one going towards funding the development of a sport and activity plan that serves as a blueprint for assessing and increasing participation rates in sport and physical activity in the community. This year, with the plan completed, the grant money will be spent in carrying out some of the plan's recommendations, which include the creation of community toolkits for schools, parents and workplaces. These toolkits will provide ideas and resources to initiate a healthy and active lifestyle. A trail/walking campaign will also be developed and promoted. "The goal of the Ontario Government's Active 2010 program is to achieve higher physical activity rates and increased sport participation in order to improve the quality of life in the province," said Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn.
