www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday August 15, 2007 - 9 Origin of falling pipe still a mystery CLEARANCE Continued from page 8 "I think this thing hit the roof, hit the driveway, bounced up and sort of hit the roof again. It must have come down with a lot of force." A well-known political personality whose articles have appeared in major newspapers including the Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star, Nicholls posted the incident on his blog and Facebook account to get feedback from others. He's calling it a UFO mystery because "some people think it's from a spaceship." Nicholls also got an explanation on Facebook from a person who is quite certain of the origin of the pipe. "Remember when kids used to launch potatoes out of a homemade launcher?" the person writes. "Well, nowadays they're not satisfied with just vegetables. They'll use any projectile. Including old barbells from weight sets with nozzles welded on the end. "They rig up a device and use an air compressor to launch it. That's exactly what this is....They could've definitely killed someone." "This could be it," Nicholls said. He has ruled out the possibility of it being a construction-related accident. "When I heard the noise, at first I didn't think much of it, because there's some house construction going on around here, and we hear loud noises all the time," he says. But when he went outside and noticed no construction was going on in the area, and then saw the damage the pipe had made, he immediately assumed it had fallen from a plane. The pipe is still sitting in his backyard. "I was just glad it didn't hit my car or something, or hit me," Nicholls said.
