SABRINA BYRNES / OAKVILLE BEAVER Strikers edged by Pixies in field hockey title game The Oakville Strikers' comeback attempt fell one goal short in the Halton Field Hockey Club girls' junior league final Wednesday at Glenashton Park. Oakville trailed the Burlington Pixies 3-0 early in the second half before rallying for two goals of its own, but could not net the equalizer. Missy Kennedy and Jessica Moore had the Strikers goals. The Pixies, who finished the 12game regular season in first place, had defeated the Oakville Rangers 1-0 in the semifinal. The Strikers, second in regular-season play, reached the final with a 4-0 blanking of the Ravens in their semifinal contest. Meanwhile, in select under-18 action, the Halton Field Hockey Club's Thrashers squad earned two wins and a tie last weekend in Napanee. Ceilidh Marshall and Laura Neal scored for the Thrashers in a 2-0 win over Kingston K-Town Thunder, while Kennedy had the only goal in Halton's 1-0 triumph over the Toronto Titans. The Thrashers also played the Guelph Grand River Panthers to a scoreless draw. Mallory Durran and Ashley Steele shared goaltending duties for the Thrashers. Next action for the team is scheduled for Aug. 10-12, when the under18 women's provincial championships will be contested at Appleby College.
