www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday July 20, 2007 - 25 Art in the Park in Bronte Aug. 6 The Oakville Art Society (OAS) is holding its 42nd Art in the Park on the waterfront in Bronte on Aug. 6. "We are thrilled to be again offering one of the best fine arts festivals in the country and are excited this year about many new additions, including the Trafalgar Brewing Company's Beer Garden," said John Edge, OAS President. "As the only art society in the country that doesn't take government funding, our continual growth is possible thanks to the support of this tremendous community, our outstanding volunteers and talented artists." Featuring more than 150 artists and artisans from across the country, the 2006 event attracted thousands of people to the Bronte waterfront. Artists for the highly competitive show were selected by a rigorous jury process. "Visitors to the 2007 show will see the return of some of the same artists as in previous years, as well as some new ones, who have never participated before", says Sabine Frisch, OAS administrator. "The Art in the Park Festival is an important show, and event, for Bronte." Every medium is represented, from traditional oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings to glass, ceramics, textiles, photography, mixed media, sculptures and fine jewelry. The atmosphere is lively with artists conducting demonstrations either at their booth or the OAS demonstration area. Visitors will get to meet the artists and learn about their motivations and excitement about their works. Another much-anticipated aspect of the event this year is the addition of Trafalgar Brewing Company, which will be providing food and refreshments at a Beer Garden right on the grounds. "We think this is a great event for all of Oakville and we are excited to be a part of it this year," said Mike Arnold, President of Trafalgar Brewing Company. Taking place in Heritage Waterfront Park, at Bronte Road and Ontario Street, Art in the Park has carved out an identity all its own. Admission is $3 at the gate. The OAS is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting art and art appreciation in the community. Art in the Park proceeds benefit area art students and the OAS.
