The personal-best swims and topeight finishes enabled OAK to finish with 757 points, 23 more than runner-up Toronto Swim Club. Sharlynn Missiuna, Julia Sinkovits, Ryan Maccarone, Alana Boffa and Marina MacDougall each qualified for junior provincials for the first time. OAK, which also qualified Avery Longmore, Jenna Wood and Hannah Burgess for provincials at the time trials held earlier this month, will send 42 competitors to next month's junior provincial championships in Ottawa -- nearly double the total of swimmers it sent a year ago. Other notable club news includes the fact that Bridget Jordan has qualified for age group nationals in the 200-metre breaststroke. Earlier this month, Jordan helped her club's 12-and-under girls' relay team set two Canadian records. "The Central Region meet went very well," said OAK coach Alex Wallingford. "Super swims from all age groups. I think the best was to see some different swimmers get up and win/medal as well as hit their cuts. All around, great swimming." Top medal winners for OAK at the meet were Graham Fink (three gold, three silver), Tera Van Beilen (three gold, one silver), James Loh (three gold, one silver, one bronze), Jack Cavanagh (two gold, two silver, one bronze), Dylan Kent (two gold, one silver, one bronze) and Michelle Carrabetta (two gold). COYOTES ROLL: Both the Oakville Coyotes eight-and-under (above) and 12and-under teams won gold at the annual Burlington Wave Roller Hockey Tournament, held earlier this month. The 8U Coyotes, playing in their first tournament together, lost their opening game before winning their next three contests. The 12U Coyotes, meanwhile, won all their games, including an 11-4 rout of Burlington in the final. Two Coyotes teams win in Burlington Oakville Coyotes teams won both the eightand-under and 12-and-under divisions at the annual Burlington Wave Roller Hockey Tournament, held earlier this month. The 12U Coyotes, coached by Matt Swain and Rod Yeo, finished last year ranked sixth in North America, and have already enjoyed a strong start to the 2007 campaign. Having already reached the semifinal at a North American Roller Hockey Championships (NARCH) qualifier in Brampton and making the final in another NARCH qualifier in Detroit, the team won all five of its games at the Burlington competition. Oakville defeated the Quinte Red Devils 122, London Fury 9-3, Brampton Radicals 9-3, Kitchener-Waterloo Rage 8-6 and Burlington Hooters 11-4. Cole Taylor led the Coyotes in scoring at the tournament, contributing 17 points, while Matthew Kaslik was named the tournament's top goaltender and Jimmy Cusan earned MVP honours. Other members of the team are Michael Yeo, Hunter Swain, Brenton Chilton, Rory Bell, Luke Shiplo, Connor McGlynn, Mark Kraft and Michael Prapavessis. The 8U Coyotes, meanwhile, were playing in their first tournament together and fell 11-6 to York in their opening game. Oakville then bounced back to defeat the Quinte Road Runners in both the preliminary round and semifinal before avenging its loss to York with a 9-5 triumph in the final. Liam Kaslik was named the tournament's MVP. Also contributing to the gold-medal win were Christopher Bassett, A.J. Mcrae, Ryan DeRenzis, Christopher Elliot, Stefano Farrari, Michael Taciuk, Sam Richardson and Aidan Robitaille. Domenic DeRenzis coaches the team. Beach volleyball camp for area players An instructional camp for local beach volleyball players will be held during the next two months in Burlington. The camp will feature head instruction from Rob Fernley, a two-time national champion, 15year coach and the co-author of Level 1 Beach Technical. Also on staff are three-time national champions Adam Podstawka and Reid Hall, as well as national champion Gaby Lesniak. Proceeds from the camp will support Podstawka and Hall in their quest at the world under-21 beach championships in Italy, as well as the Canadian Cancer Society. Camps will be held the weeks of July 9-13, July 16-20, July 23-27, July 31-Aug. 3, Aug. 6-10 and Aug. 13-17. Registration fee is $165 a week, with camps running from 10 a.m. -3 p.m. each day.
