By Melanie Cummings SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER T he latest cover boys of the calendar set are a dozen hunks from Vistamere Retirement Residence. Willing to doff their skivvies for the sake of charity, these senior beefcakes just released a 2008 calendar featuring their best assets. With strategically-placed pots of gold, Valentine hearts and more highlighting each month's theme, staff and residents put together a photographic exposé of which that risqué comedian Benny Hill would be proud. Canada's next top models, whose average age is 86, are all living under one roof at the Sherin Drive residence. They are: Roy Smith, Syd Jackson, Ken Hazelden, Ted Drinkwater, Fred Jones, Ed Cross, John Burns, John Chance, Herbert Johnson, Harry Edge, Lou Everitt and Leslie Thomas. "We egged each other on and had the best time." Over a six-day shoot schedule, these manly models had plenty of help from Vistamere's manager Heather Chessman, its director of care Sally Hung, nurse Helen Goncalves and her husband Januario, as well as the residence's maintenance worker turned prop master for this project, Jim Moore. `Mr. October', John Chance, got the okay from his wife to pose, but his son has yet to see his dad's image in the buff. "I'm not worried, he's a liberal guy," said Chance. So is Harry Edge, who is also known as `Mr. September'. "At age 87 I'm not nervous about stripping down anymore. I've done it for countless doctors at my age by now.
