www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday June 23, 2007 - 7 Slightly smaller than the White House Continued from page 4 Regional Police officers who stood by the second gate. It's just in front of a small building that bears a sign stating the house is under 24-hour video surveillance. A well-manicured lawn it looks like golf greens and many trees line the driveways leading back to the house, and one of many large fountains sits near the enormous front doors. The house even has its own fire hydrant. Supporters were greeted Wednesday by four St. Mildred's students clad in their uniforms, including Britany Powell, as they walked to the backyard. The back field area is larger than a football field and houses about 5,000 square feet of out-buildings. This includes a swimming pavilion, where Britany takes her swimming lessons, Tracy said. The pavilion is on the edge of the property on the shore of Lake Ontario, and is fully equipped with a kitchen, bedroom, sitting area and hot tub. In addition to the swimming pavilion, the main house is also home to an indoor pool in a room that also houses several chandeliers. This was the only door open on Wednesday during the garden party. Slightly smaller than the White House, Chelster Hall took four years to build, Tracy said. She and Hugo met at Labatt in the 1980s, and actually lived two doors down for a year and a half before they began building what she calls "Hugo's dream house." It's inspired by Blickling Hall in Norfolk, England, where Hugo grew up. "The idea of having a huge house on the lake was always his dream," Tracy said, while standing in the chapel. She and Hugo live in the "west wing" of the home. It's two stories high and houses a kitchen, family room, bedroom and billiards room, Tracy said. Britany's bedroom is in the "east wing." For now, the Powells are only describing Chelster Hall to the community. As for when the big, grand-opening event will be staged indoors for the Oakville Humane Society, Hugo says, smiling, "When Oprah agrees to come, or the Queen."
