Was the youngest member of that team... Tied for second in playoff scoring with 29 points in 16 games... OHL coaches named him the West Conference's best playmaker and smartest player... Finished 5th in OHL scoring and was second in assists... Had five points in OHL all-star game. Draft notes: His dad Dave, now an assistant coach with London, was picked 12th overall by the New York Rangers in the 1983 draft. The younger Gagner is an outstanding stickhandler and passer but also possesses a good shot. He has a great understanding of the game. Like most young players, scouts say he needs to add strength to be able to fight through checks but is considered a sure-fire top-10 pick. Team: Mississauga Ice Dogs Position: Right Wing Height/Weight: 5-foot-9, 170 pounds Stats: 64 games, 43 goals, 32 assists, 75 points Projected draft position: 26th to 142nd TSN projection: 35th (Chicago) Also picked at No. 35: Jamie Langenbrunner (1993) Career highlights: Scored a goal at the Canadian Hockey League Top Prospects Game in Quebec City... Voted the most improved player and best skater in the East Conference by OHL coaches... Improved from 32nd among North American skaters to 13th in final NHL Central Scouting Bureau rankings. Draft notes: Legein is a wild card that could go anywhere from the first to fifth round, though most sources peg him as a solid second-round selection. Legein had 10 goals and 24 points in his first two OHL seasons combined, but exploded to more than triple his career totals this season. Known for his gritty style of play and strong forechecking, Legein led the OHL with seven shorthanded goals. Though his size may be a concern for some teams, he offsets that with outstanding speed. Team: Peterborough Petes Position: Goalie Height/Weight: 5-foot-11, 199 pounds Stats: 3.69 average, .909 save percentage, 23-32-5 record Projected draft position: 24th to 80th TSN projection: 44th (Toronto) Also picked at No. 44: Jose Theodore (1994) Career highlights: Youngest goalie invited to the Canadian World Junior training camp... Starting goalie for Canada at the World Under-18 championships in Finland... Made 23 saves to shut out Russian all-stars in Canada-Russia Challenge... Played in Canadian Hockey League Top Prospects game... Shut out U.S. in the final of the Under-18 Junior World Cup... Went 16-2-0 in rookie season as Peterborough won the OHL championship. Draft notes: Rated second among North American goalies by the NHL Central Scouting Bureau, after holding the number one spot for most of the year. While no goalies are expected to be taken early, Cann could be a late first-round pick. A butterfly goalie who controls his rebounds well, Cann also has a good glove hand. He has performed well in big games. · Player bios compiled by Oakville Beaver sports reporter Herb Garbutt, with information from The Hockey News, TSN and hockeyfutures.com.
