Council opted to delay the EFW proposal to wait for technology improvements and give new waste diversion initiatives time to impact Halton's waste management system. The decision, which means the EFW option is off the table for now and won't be considered again for five years, was celebrated by local opponents of the facility that would incinerate garbage and generate hydro. "It's a great day for the environment and citizens, too," said Barbara Halsall, of Protect Our Water and Environmental Resources. Prior to its verdict, Halsall urged council members one last time to support the motion, which was created and recommended by the planning and public works committee last week.
