For Cystic Fibrosis (CF) car wash. The charity car wash is taking place simultaneously all across Canada at 70 different CARSTAR locations. All proceeds raised will be donated to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CCFF), and used to fund more than 50 research projects for cystic fibrosis and new treatments. With more than 5,000 cars washed and $60,000 raised last year, CARSTAR is hoping this year's event will surpass those numbers. Tickets for the car wash cost $5 and can be purchased at CARSTAR locations right up to the day of event. With every ticket that is purchased, customers are enrolled in a draw for a "California Dreamin" vacation prize pack. This year's car wash is sponsored by Quiznos and Shell Canada. Cystic fibrosis is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting young Canadians. It attacks mainly the lungs and digestive system. A build up of thick mucus occurs in the lungs creating breathing difficulties. In the digestive tract, the mucus makes it difficult for the body to absorb nutrients. Those affected by the disease must adhere to a rigorous treatment plan that incorporates daily physical therapies to loosen the mucus and taking a large amount of digestive enzymes to aid in nutrient absorption.
