www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday June 13, 2007 - 35 Listen to the music Thank you for a special day The Picnic/Concert in the Park hosted by the Friends of the Oakville Historical Society on Sunday was a great success. The weather co-operated beautifully, the music was heavenly and everyone enjoyed the special afternoon. I would like to thank the executive of the "Friends" and all the other volunteers who participated in the planning, preparation, set-up and clean up. These volunteers of the Historical Society are a great group of individuals dedicated to preserving and promoting heritage in Oakville. Special recognition and thanks must also be given to several others. The St. Paul's Dixieland Band and Oakville Wind Orchestra together played their wonderful music all afternoon to a very appreciative audience. Audioman Councillor Roger Lapworth with his staff volunteered his fabulous sound system. George Farrow, drove and displayed his gorgeous 1911 "horseless carriage" to the delight of everyone. James Sawyer, U of T student and Piper who piped from `Erchless' to the bandstand, Mayor Rob Burton and entourage. Walter Jennings, Treasurer of the Board of Directors, for his informative and stylish display of Oakville's history. Judith Clyde for creating and designing the stunning 150th flag/banner for everyone to sign. Sarah, Maggie and Brock family for manning the 150th water, pin and bag table all afternoon in support of REACH. Councillor Keith Bird and Halton Chair Gary Carr for supplying bottled water. St John Ambulance staff who stood by just in case. Donna Starkey and Claudette Shaw -- the bunting and tablecloth experts. The ladies in their fancy dresses, Carol Castle with her vintage pram and two student volunteers, Allana Bray and Rob Burton Jr. helping out where needed. Last but not least, the great staff and crew of Oakville's Parks and Open Spaces who groomed the park meticulously, spray washed the bandstand, brought in many extra picnic tables and erected the row of colourful provincial flags, cheerfully, outside of their regular work hours. Finally, thanks to all the people who came out to Lakeside Park to enjoy The Oakville Historical Society's celebration of Oakville's sesquicentennial. A day to remember.
