The Opposition Leader spoke to a crowd of more than 200 people at a Liberal fundraising dinner held in the dinning hall of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 793. Those who came to see him braved a $200-per-person fee, as well as a few nail-biting moments when it was announced that Dion's plane had been delayed in Ottawa due to bad weather. After nearly an hour of waiting, the patience of Dion's devoted followers was rewarded with the arrival of a silver mini-van from which emerged the man who hopes to become Canada's 23rd Prime Minister. After pausing briefly to speak with local media and pose for some photos with Oakville MP Bonnie Brown and Halton MP Garth Turner, Dion proceeded to the dining room where his arrival was greeted with thunderous applause and a standing ovation from those who had come to see him. Turner, a former Conservative-turned-Independentturned-Liberal, introduced Dion to the audience as the man that saved him. "I like this guy," said Turner to the applause of the audience. "I have a special reason to like him because when I was a homeless Independent, an outcast Member of Parliament, rejected by the evil Conservatives, this guy gave me a home. He gave me a political family, but he gave me more than that." Turner went on to say that Dion offered him something crucial he did not find during his time under Prime Minister Stephen Harper. "Stephane Dion gives every member of Parliament, every elected person respect," said Turner. "This is not a man who promises one thing to gain power and then does something else. This is not a man who leads by intimidating other people. This is not a leader who makes himself more powerful by tearing down or ridiculing or belittling or smearing his adversaries. Stephane Dion is no Stephen Harper and that is why Stephane is destined of course to be the next Prime Minister of Canada." Dion began his speech by calling for the re-election of Oakville MP Bonnie Brown and Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn. Dion also called for the JOIN US!
