www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday June 1, 2007 - 21 Retirement residences celebrate Seniors month Saturday Three Oakville retirement residences -- Churchill Place, Trafalgar Lodge and The Kensington -- are throwing open their doors to the public from noon to 4 p.m. this Sunday. It's to salute veterans on D-Day and to mark Seniors month. At Churchill Place Retirement Residence located at 345 Church St., seniors will be donning their military uniforms for salute to veterans as part of Seniors' Month festivities across Canada. Churchill Place will step back in time to salute the 62nd anniversary of D-Day and the many veterans who live at Churchill Place. The residence will be adorned with the personal war-time memorabilia of the veterans who reside at the residence and everyone will be able to enjoy wartime music performed by the Oakville Jazz Ensemble. Raffle tickets will be sold to win an excursion on a war plane compliments of the War Aviation Heritage Museum. At The Kensington Retirement Residence located at 25 Lakeshore Rd. E., there will be a mock cross-country rail trip as members of the community are invited to join residents to hop aboard and experience Canadiana displays honoring several regions of the country. At each stop, local music and food will be available as well as discussion groups from residents who hail from the specific areas. All are welcome to enjoy entertainment by the Blazing Fiddles. At Trafalgar Lodge Retirement Residence located at 299 Randall St. residents will be joined by Mayor Rob Burton who will arrive at 12:30 p.m. to take part in a Tai Chi Fair. Entertainment will be provided by Cedric Decroix and there will be a community barbecue. All funds raised collective by the residences through Retirement Residences Group (RRG) locations hosting events on "Celebrating Seniors" Day will help to sponsor Shirley Fielding, executive director of the RRG Appleby Place in Burlington run in the Nov. 4 Joints in Motion marathon in Athens, Greece to raise funds for the Arthritis Society Joints in Motion.
