The Whalers pulled out a dramatic 2-1 overtime victory over the Lewiston MAINEiacs Tuesday in their final roundrobin game, finishing the preliminary round with a 1-2 mark. Plymouth scored a shorthanded goal with two minutes left to tie the game, then notched the game-winner early in the extra session. The Attack defeated the National Capitals 25-21, 15-10 in the quarterfinals before falling to the hosts and eventual gold medalists, Fraser Valley, 25-20, 25-17. For Vukson, a 16-year-old Loyola student, it was her fifth national tier I medal in as many years. Locals on Thunder rugby club The Oakville Crusaders' premier men's team was done in by several of its own players in a recent 24-7 exhibi- tion loss to the Niagara Thunder, a club that competes in the Rugby Canada Super League. Local players Harry Cheung, Spencer Fullerton, Jonathon Goldie, Andrew Thomson and Andrew Wilson have cracked Niagara's lineup this year and suited up for the Thunder. Cheung scored the opening try of the game for Niagara and Fullerton added a try and two converts for the Thunder. Alistair Clark scored the lone Crusaders' try, which was converted by Andrew Buxton-Foreman. The Thunder flew east last weekend for league games against the New Brunswick Black Spruce and Nova Scotia Keltics.
