River Oaks wins Wallace track-and-field meet Top-three finishes in five of six divisions enabled River Oaks Public School to win the overall championship at the Halton District School Board's Wallace elementary track-and-field meet, held Friday in Burlington. River Oaks won pennants in the senior girls' and intermediate boys' divisions, came second in junior girls' and intermediate girls' competition, and finished third in the junior boys' grouping, concluding the meet with 358.5 points. Florence Meares of Burlington finished second with 297.5 points, and West Oak -- which won the intermediate girls' division -- was third with 246.5. Lindsay Logan and Laura Pilmoor each won two individual events for River Oaks. Logan was victorious in the intermediate girls' triple jump and shot put events, while Pilmoor finished first in senior girls' long jump and triple jump. Oakville whipped the Markham Ironheads 142 Thursday and downed the Halton Hills Bulldogs 12-10 Friday, then earned a 9-6 win Sunday in Mississauga over the Tomahawks. The Buzz (8-0-1) holds a three-point lead over the Mimico Mountaineers for top spot in the South East Division. Mimico, also yet to lose with a 7-0 mark, has two games in hand on Oakville.
