www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday May 23, 2007 - 11 Boston Pizza helps raise funds for book depot at youth centre I n order to raise funds for a book depot at the Oakville Youth Development Centre, Boston Pizza will be hosting Oakville Pubic Library Day on Thursday, May 23 from 5 ­ 8 p.m. Boston Pizza (located at 2011 Winston Park Dr. in Oakville), is donating 10 per cent of all food sales on that day, and will also host a silent auction. Genworth Financial, the major sponsor of the book depot, has confirmed its support of $2,500 for the purchase of books. Funds raised by Boston Pizza will also go to towards books, shelving, furniture and signage. This drop-in centre provides a space for all youth aged 13-18 to relax and socialize in a friendly and open environment and is the first centre of its kind in Oakville. The new book depot at the Oakville Youth Development Centre will provide teens in our community with easy access to reading materials, improving literacy skills and nurturing a love of learning. The Oakville Public Library is excited about plans for a new Book Depot at the Oakville Youth Development Centre. It was created to enable teens to easily access books (borrowing works on the honour system ­ no library card is required). "It will create the opportunity for them to discover new ideas and develop literacy skills," explains Melissa Cameron, Manager of Marketing and Development for the Oakville Public Library. Although there are no immediate plans to open similar venues, Cameron says the library is definitely open to future partnerships for teen book depots.
