Dolphins eighth at team provincials In its first year competing at the Division 1 level, the Dolphins Swim Club finished eighth at the provincial team championships recently in Ottawa. The Dolphins, who moved up to Division 1 this season after dominating the Division 2 championships last year, had targeted a top-10 showing out of the 20 teams vying for an all-Ontario title. Members of the team combined for 22 medals, 40 top-eight finishes and 22 club records. Locals advance in Pitch, Hit and Run Eleven local residents were among the event or all-around winners in last weekend's first round of the Pepsi Pitch, Hit and Run competition in Oakville. Individual pitching, hitting and running winners, along with the all-around champion, from each age group qualified to advance to sectional competition, which will be held in Vauahgan. Winners there advance to the Toronto Blue Jays Championship at Rogers Centre, with the final round being the Major League Baseball Finals at the MLB AllStar Game in San Francisco. In 7-8-year-old competition, Jack Berczi and Andrew Ciuffreda tied for top pitching honours with Brampton's Rory Pollard. Berczi also won the running event. Troy LaCoste and Griffin Sanford were among the pitching co-winners in 9-10-year-old play. Robert Cant was top hitter. Michael Brooks won the allaround title in the 11-12 age group. Tyler Cassidy (pitching), Erec Kingston (hitting) and Joshua Brough (running) were individual winners. Andrew Filler won the allaround, pitching and hitting titles in 13-14. Kyle Hann was the running champ.
