The hole was created when a bolt of lightning struck and tore through the roof blowing out a fan in an upstairs bathroom. An Oakville family is counting their blessings no one was hurt after a lightning bolt ripped a hole in the roof of their Chatsworth home Tuesday morning. Michelle and Mark Worton were in bed comforting their two young children, Alexandra and Braden, who had been scared by the morning's thunderstorm, when the bolt struck. "It was just towards the end of the storm," said Michelle. "We thought it was over." At about 5:45 a.m. several hundred million volts of electricity, defied that assumption, descending on the Worton home in one great blast. "It sounded like a bomb went off in our ensuite," said Michelle. So intense was the lightening bolt that several neighbours reported their homes shaking from the blast, while one neighbour's home alarm system actually went off. Initially thinking a window had been broken in the adjoining bathroom Mark rushed in finding a whole set of different problems. Where the bathroom light switch had been there was now only a small black charred hole. "Then I looked up to where the fan was and the fan was hanging out of the ceiling and all around it was on fire," said Mark. After quickly evacuating his family from the house Mark and a neighbour See Family page 4 Oakville's largest selection of Natural Limestone and Hardwood · Custom Quality Workmanship 35 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN TILE INSTALLATION LARGEST SELECTION OF WOOD FLOORING OVER 500 SAMPLES ON DISPLAY GRANITE COUNTERTOPS BUY DIRECT FROM THE IMPORTER LARGE SELECTION OF NATURAL LIMESTONE & PORCELAIN TILE Monday to Friday 7:30am-6:00pm · Saturday 7:30am-5:00pm · Closed Sunday 243 SPEERS ROAD, OAKVILLE · 905.338.1288
