20 - The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday May 12, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com Weekend to End Breast Cancer Melon Girls hold plant sale On Sept. 8 and 9, Oakville's team Melon Girls will join thousands of other committed women and men in the fifth annual Weekend to End Breast Cancer 60 km walk through Toronto to raise funds for breast cancer research. In 2003, team Melon Girls took part in the premier event. My sister, Lynn Watson, had been diagnosed with breast cancer at age 45. Feeling helpless and isolated, I learned about the walk and knew it was something I had to try to do for every person who might also have to face this devastating disease. Although the faces on our team have changed since our first Toronto walk, our commitment remains strong. This year, Lynn, my sister and inspiration, will join the team on our journey. Team members have already begun to raise the $2,000 per entrant fee (all proceeds to the Weekend to End Breast Cancer) to participate in the walk. We raise the requisite funds through the generous donations of family, friends and colleagues, garage and bake sales, wine-tasting seminars and plant sales. This year's Oakville event is a perennial plant sale to be held tomorrow from 9 a.m. to noon at 52 Highland Rd., in the area of Queen Mary Drive and Rebecca Street. We are counting on your support. This Sept. 8, when we begin our walk, survivors, friends and family will cheer us on. Total strangers will line up along our 60 km route and lend support with cheers, tears, posters, flags, even refreshments. It is an intense two days of camaraderie, laughter, aches and pains. And when we enter the site of the closing ceremonies, we will once again enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that we have made a difference in others' lives. Over the past four years we have raised nearly $60,000 for breast cancer research. We are asking for your support again this year. Please come to the plant sale on May 12, and/or go to www.endcancer.ca to sponsor a Melon Girl. -- Submitted by Gail Anderson, Team Captain Sore Feet? This is a revolutionary, non-surgical spinal treatment for the long term relief of chronic or debilitating low back, neck, arm, wrist, and leg pain. This technology has been preventing surgeries in the US and is now available for the first time here in Ontario. It is deemed as an excellent alternative to surgery as it is showing very high success rates in the US and relief is long term. Previously it has been a hospital based therapy, but it is now available privately at The Canadian Decompression and Pain Center to the general public. HOW DOES IT WORK? The treatment is a three-phase system. This includes: Stage 1 g Neuro Decompression System A computerized, controlled mechanical pull is placed in the area of pain, creating a negative pressure in the joints or discs, allowing healing of the area. This pulling action can be held for up to 30 minutes if necessary. Stage 2 g Oxygen enhancement - The second phase offers patients the unique combination of inhaling pure grade oxygen (up to 94%) while being treated on the neuro decompression traction machine. The oxygen enhancement allows the body to oxygenate the spine, and in turn, calm the nervous system. Stage 3 g Neuro-detoxification - This is the phase of the treatment where the patient will ingest a special nutritional detoxification drink before the treatment. This helps with supplying nutrients to the area of pain while being treated. This is the most complete and comprehensive system available, the one that works best, and the one that is unique to The Canadian Decompression and Pain Center. There are locations in Mississauga and in Scarborough in which you can receive this treatment. An appointment can be made by calling 416-456-6881. Treatments may be fully or partially covered by health plans through work or insurance. Consultations are free. The highly trained staff will take the time to listen to concerns, answer questions and to help people understand they don't have to live with pain. Book today! FAQ's: How long does the treatment take? Treatment may last anywhere from two weeks to three months, depending on the condition. Studies show that patients generally require between ten to twenty treatments to get optimal results. Is the treatment affordable? Yes. You can come in for a free consultation and the doctors will determine if you are a candidate. We never refuse treatment because of financial limitations. Senior discounts are available. How do I determine if I'm a candidate? If you have had an MRI, CT scan, or radiographs of the affected area, those results are helpful. Testing can also be performed on site if you have not had any previously done. CONDITIONS TREATED: · Disc bulge or herniations · Spinal Stenosis · Sciatica · Neck pain · Radiculopathy (pinched nerve) · Carpal Tunnel Syndrome The treatment at this center differs from other clinics as this is the most comprehensive program available on the market as it involves several facets that no other clinic provides. There are other decompression machines on the market, but the system used here is the first of its kind in Canada. It is very effective, as success rates are as high as 90% depending on the condition. Call 416-456-6881
