A mortgage broker is "a person who carries on the business of lending money on the security of real estate, whether the money is the person's money, or that of another person," as defined by the Mortgage Broker's Act. We work with over 50 lenders, many of which are not accessible to consumers. This means we are independent and there are more choices for you. Secondly, not all mortgages are alike. Our job is to get the best possible mortgage for you. This does not necessarily mean the lowest interest rate. Mortgages have numerous options: prepayment penalties, fixed/variable rates, portability, assumability and so on. We will take the time to understand you, your future goals and your present financial situation. Based on this information, we will shop the market for the best mortgage to suit your needs. Now that the warm weather is back kids are out in force, having fun and unfortunately injuries happen. Injuries to teeth usually occur when kids fall off playground swings, dive into shallow pools, play baseball, skateboarding, inline skating and bicycling. 36% of inuries to children are related to sports and 10% of all kids playing sports have injuries to the face. The damage ranges from cracked and fractured teeth and lip lacerations, broken jaws, and tooth trauma symptoms including sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures. In the U.S., studies show that 5 million teeth are knocked out each year! Prevention is key. Wearing protective equipment like a mouth guard where appropriate is important. So, what to do if you or your child has a dental injury? If a tooth has moved or is loose, push the tooth back into its original position, bite down so the tooth does not move, call your dentist or visit the emergency room. If knocked out, pick the tooth up by the crown, and put it back in place if possible. If you hold it by the root, you may damage the ability for the bone to re-attach to the tooth. If the tooth can not be replaced in its socket on site, do not let the tooth dry out. Place it in a container with a lid and use low-fat milk, saline solution or saliva. Visit the dentist as soon as possible the longer the tooth is out of the mouth, the less likely the tooth will be able to be saved. Have a safe summer and keep smiling!! Unit #1, Burlington, ON 905-632-4209 www.howellandassociates.com better LCD or plasma? Clinton Howell Director Q: What is heartworm? parasite that is transmitted to dogs through A: Heartworm is a When a mosquito carrying larvae bites a dog mosquito bites. and transmits infection, the larvae grow and develop into mature worms while traveling through the bloodstream, settling in the heart, lungs and surrounding blood vessels. Adult worms accumulate over time and cause a range of clinical signs including coughing, exercise intolerance, weight loss, and eventually heart failure and death. Treatment for heartworm infection is available, but can be risky and expensive. Q: I want to buy a flatscreen TV. What is good and bad A: Both technologies have examples ofright technology in the marketplace. Choosing the for you has a lot to do with the application. If you plan on watching TV in a room with fairly controlled lighting and not a lot of day light and if your high priority is the best quality for movies then I would go with Plasma hands down the colours are truer, blacks are blacker and the picture is far more film-like. If you are putting the flatscreen in a room where there is a lot of daylight coming in and you are truly watching a large variety of media including sports and video games, my choice is LCD the picture is brighter, bolder and there is no risk of screen burn-in that can happen with still images on plasma. All in all, both technologies can produce outstanding pictures, especially with HD sources...beware of rumours, technologies change quickly. Q: A: Q: A: Q: Should I give my dog heartworm prevention? heartworm infection is much more A: Prevention ofthan treatment and should besafer and to all economical offered dogs at risk of infection. It is important to remember that only one bite is required for infection! Since heartworm requires mosquitoes for transmission, prevention is provided during `mosquito season', which in Ontario is June through November. There are a variety of highly effective options when choosing the right heartworm prevention for your pet, including monthly chewable tablets and monthly topical products.
