Learn from the experts! Green Gardening Day takes place on Saturday, May 12, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. ­ 3:00 p.m. at the Oakville Public Library Central Branch. "Green Gardening Day is all about celebrating the latest ideas in environmentally friendly gardening," says Melissa Cameron, Manager of Marketing and Development for the Oakville Public Library. There will be many exciting events and activities throughout the day, including special speakers, activities for kids, a chance to stock up on plants and baked goods and several prizes to be won. Harry Jongerden, Director of Horticulture at Hamilton's Royal Botanical Gardens, will be presenting "Maintaining a Healthy Lawn - Without Pesticides!" in the Auditorium at 10:30 a.m. At 1:30 p.m. the Kwale Library in Africa will be held from 10:00 a.m. ­ 3:00 p.m. A variety of perennials will be available for sale, with all proceeds going to support Kwale Library in Kenya, Africa. Baked goods are also available for purchase during the sale. For Kids: Children will be able to participate in the Great Garden Extravaganza, and plant their very own garden to take home with them. Other fun activities will also fill the Children's Department from 10:00 a.m. ­ 3:00 p.m. Prizes and Displays: Home Depot has donated over $100 in gardening products, there will be composters, and many, many gardening books (valued at over $500) available to be won, plus much more! All customers visiting the branch that day will also be eligible to enter our prize draw. The Town of Oakville and the Region of Halton will have displays and information available throughout the day in Adult Services. The library will also have a display of our own green garden -- Submitted by the Oakville Public Library.
