www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday May 2, 2007 - 27 David Usher and jacksoul performing at Waterfront Festival David Usher, jacksoul, Suzie McNeil and illScarlett are headlining this year's Oakville Waterfront Festival, set to take over Coronation Park from June 23-25. The Friday June 22 concert on the main stage kicks off with illScarlett, a rhythm and reggae influenced band from Toronto. The band has performed and or toured with acts including The AllAmerican Rejects, Cypress Hill, Billy Talent, Buckcherry, Swollen Members, Gnarls Barkley and Dropkick Murphy's. Signed to Sony BMG, illScarlett has just finished recording its debut album with producer Matthew Wilder. It's expected to be released this summer. Following illScarlett on the main stage is David Usher. With his band, and as a solo artist, Usher had sold more than 1.3 million records, and has gained a reputation as one of Canada's most dynamic performers. He has won five Junos including 2002 Pop Album of the year and has had multiple number one and top ten radio singles in Canada. Usher's newest album, Strange Birds was released March 20. The album's first single, The Music, has already had major radio play. On Saturday June 23, Ford of Canada presents the main stage concert featuring jacksoul and rising star Suzie McNeil. Jacksoul has been heralded for its live shows, and brings that same energy and excitement into the recording studio. The group members have earned a reputation for being gifted songwriters. They also have various awards under their belts, including the Toronto production of the musical We Will Rock You. On Sunday, June 24, the Waterfront Festival celebrates Family Day with the magical world of Majinx, Canadian Champions of Magic. Lawrence, Cynthia and their children Nathaniel and Zadia return to the festival with their grand spectacle of illusion. This team has produced the most visually colourful and exciting illusion show currently on the market, featuring mechanical wizardry, music and comedy. The family has appeared at The CNE, Ontario Place, and Paramount Canada's Wonderland, as well as the last two years at the Waterfront Festival. In addition to these main acts, an assortment of local performers are scheduled on the Community Stage in the Molson Bar and Grill throughout the weekend, including a performance by the local firefighter band, Firesound, with a special appearance by the Calendar guys, on the Sunday afternoon. Fireworks, a dog show, craft show, home show, health and wellness village, gardening presentations, children's village and a skateboard competition are just some of the other activities happening during this year's Oakville Waterfront Festival. The festival runs Friday June 22 from 5 11 p.m., Saturday June 23 from 9 a.m. 11 p.m. and Sunday June 24 from 9 a.m. 5 p.m. Tickets cost $11-$13 in advance, and $13-$15 at the gate, and provide access to all concerts and activities with the exception of theme park rides over all three days.
