www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday April 27, 2007 - 13 Province gives Conservation Halton Wildflower Woods Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn took Earth Day to announce the Liberal government's intention to transfer an additional 21 acre parcel of land for conservation purposes to Oakville. The announcement was made during the Clean-Up Clearview Project at Clearview Park as part of the 16th Annual Earth Day celebrations in Oakville. "I'm pleased to announce that I am working with officials to have another important piece of ecologically-sensitive land transferred to Conservation Halton," said Flynn. "It is just another example of the McGuinty government taking action to protect Ontario's green spaces and strengthen the environment by transferring these lands for our community's benefit," said Flynn. Building on its plan to protect Ontario's green spaces, the McGuinty government will donate more than 200 acres of provincially-significant, natural heritage land to communities and organizations across the province, David Caplan, Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal, announced on April 20 as part of the province's Earth Week celebrations. In Oakville, the green space referred to is part of the area known as Wildflower Woods, a 24.1-acre environmentally-sensitive property that's a treed, undeveloped parcel located on the south side of Ford Drive, directly east of the Ford Motor Company and west of First Canadian Title. "Protecting our natural resources is an important responsibility," said Brian Penman, Chair of Conservation Halton. "I am pleased that the McGuinty government has announced its intention to allocate new lands for conservation in the Wildflower Woods area of Oakville. "The latest announcement builds on the recently dedicated 650-acre Glenorchy Conservation Area in Halton." The government intends to transfer 10 significant green spaces, ranging in size from three to 80 acres, to communities and organizations across the province, including here in Oakville. "This important contribution supports our government's plan to increase parkland and protected areas across the province," said Caplan, adding, "By building a greener province for Ontario families, we're ensuring our province will be a great place to live, work and play for years to come."
