16 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday April 11, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com Making friendships around the globe Continued from page 14 "Hope n' Seek will unite children living on two continents," said Mulvale who is directing the fundraising and awareness project with Oakville graphic designer and artist Julie Atkinson. "It is an opportunity for our children to make a difference in the world by using their hands, hearts and creativity," said Mulvale. "Half the world's population is under the age of 20," Mulvale said. "These are leaders of the future. They need to know each other and work together. Hope n' Seek is providing an introduction. It's giving our kids the opportunity to witness how their actions can change a life, a community and perhaps a continent. It will be interesting to see what our kids choose to do after the introductions have been made. I believe it will be inspiring." The mural was worked on by students at River Oaks Public School. The students helped out with the first of six panels that will complete the 6-ft. x 18-ft. Hope n' Seek International Mural of Friendship. The mural also visited Ecole Pine Grove, St. Joan of Arc and Pope John Paul II. The program is being supported by assemblies held at Oakville schools in which a presentation is made sharing the distressing stories of the children Hope n' Seek aims to assist. Mulvale, who traveled to Uganda and Tanzania in the summer of 2006, says she wants children in Canada to recognize the value of their lives and realize that we have the ability and responsibility to help those who share the global community.
