8- The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday April 7, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com Police investigating `questionable' internet chats Reports of a series of questionable internet chat exchanges are under investigation by the Halton Regional Police's Child and Sexual Assault Bureau (CASA). A concerned parent contacted Halton police on April 2, reporting that a man their child knew was chatting over the internet and making "questionable comments," police say. Detectives started an investigation and have interviewed students from Falgarwood Public School about chat messages they were exchanging with a man known to them. "The Halton District School Board has been very helpful," said Det. Constable Pritpal Nagra of the CASA Bureau. "Presently we have interviewed a small number of young girl students that received chat messages at their homes from a man known to them. These messages are questionable, and we are reviewing to ensure no crime has been committed." The Halton Regional Police have no immediate safety concerns for the children. The identity of the man is known to police, but he will not be identified pending further investigation. Police are asking parents of students from Falgarwood Public School, whose children use internet chat services, to speak with their kids to see if they've corresponded recently with an adult man. Any unusual chats should be reported. Detective Constable Pritpal Nagra, Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Bureau, is overseeing this review. He can be reached at 905-8254777 Ext. 5241. The Halton Regional Police Service is continuing to investigate this incident. Anyone with information related to it is asked to contact the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777 or 905-634-1831 Ext. 5241 or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Climate change forum April 14 The Oakville Community Centre for Peace, Ecology and Human Rights is hosting a free public forum about climate change and global warming on Saturday, April 14.
