34 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday April 6, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com Mini-putt challenge will benefit Oakville Distress Centre A highly-challenging, fun, old fashioned activity will serve as the backdrop for the Oakville Distress Centre fundraiser this spring. The Oakville Distress Centre (ODC) will be hosting a mini-putt community challenge at the Hopedale Mall from April 27 28. "The initial concept was to come up with an activity that is fun for the whole family that anyone can enjoy regardless of age or skill." Lori A. Wilson, president of the board of directors explains. "The idea of a mini putt provides a relaxing yet challenging atmosphere for anyone who participates." By having the 2,000-square foot course situated in Hopedale Mall's Centre Court it allows not only the Oakville Distress Centre a vast amount of potential participants, but provides the mall with a dynamic attraction that can't be found in many places. The course will be highlighted by the day's final attraction: The 10th hole. It's a tricky challenge designed to allow anyone who participates a chance to put their putting skills to the test and win a prize donated by the corporate community. The Oakville Distress Centre has provided service to local communities for the past 32 years. It helps persons from all walks of life, including those who battle physical and mental illness to individuals who are lonely and need someone to talk to. The ODC hopes to raise funds, which will allow them to enhance their current operations. "Each year our highly trained volunteers respond to thousands of calls focusing on crisis prevention and crisis intervention," says ODC Executive Director Kassandra Sawatzky. "Hopefully with the funds we raise through this event we can branch out and be able to help more people in the community." Safe & Have a Safee&!
