"Over the past five years, Oakville taxpayers have contributed $75 million to pooling," noted Ward 6 councillor Tom Adams. "These are funds that could have, and should have, benefited our community." The GTA pooling program will be phased out by 2013, with the provincial government picking up the costs currently funded through pooling. In the regional budget approved in January, Halton politicians put aside $41.2 million to send as the region's required contribution to Toronto social housing and welfare costs.
