8- The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday March 7, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com Special bus pass for Oakville students Recognizing that young people lead busy lives, Oakville Transit has launched the Student Freedom Pass (SFP), a monthly bus pass designed especially for students aged six to 18. For $10 a month, the pass allows students unlimited travel on Oakville Transit buses from 5 p.m. on weekday evenings and all day on weekends and statutory holidays. As an added bonus, students who purchase the March 2007 pass will enjoy unlimited Oakville Transit travel all day, every day during March Break (March 12 - March 16). The SFP concept was originally proposed by Mayor Rob Burton during his election campaign. "It is important to encourage young people to be involved in the many opportunities our Town has to offer. It is my hope that this pass helps students get connected with our community. It's more than just a bus pass it's a means through which they can participate in any number of activities across the town." Barry Cole, Director of Transit Services for Oakville Transit, agrees that the pass has many benefits. "We're very pleased to provide this new option," he says. "The SFP is an environmentally-friendly, cost-effective and convenient transportation alternative. It simplifies students' busy lives and eliminates the need for bus tickets or change." The Student Freedom Pass is now available at all Town Ticket Agent locations. The pass currently for sale is valid for the month of March.
