Trees, traffic and aesthetics are likely to top the list of concerns tonight, when residents from the Lakeshore Woods subdivision gather to hear details of a proposal to build a four-storey apartment building in the centre of their community. The subdivision, located on the former Shell research facility lands just east of Burloak Drive, contains about 1,000 single-family homes surrounding a five-acre wooded lot. That lot, now owned by the Daniels Corporation, is zoned for medium density development. Although no development application has yet been filed, Daniels is looking to build either a four-storey, 100-unit apartment building, or 100 three-storey stacked townhouse units on the lot. A community meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. at Walton United Church, will offer residents details and illustrations of the two development options and gather feedback about what they like and don't like, said Remo Agostino, manager of development with Daniels. Local resident Sheila Barry, who started a community newsletter to keep people abreast of neighbourhood issues, says many residents are just learning of the plan to develop the wooded lot.
