Yesterday, Oakville Hydro announced it has secured a Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program (RESOP) from the Ontario Power Authority. The provincial program, which allows Oakville Hydro to "sell" green energy back into the grid, follows an announcement last spring that Oakville Hydro and Halton Region had partnered to build a facility that will generate electricity from gas at the Halton Waste Management site. Oakville Hydro is currently exploring the use of renewable sources in a number of ways. In addition to the creation of electricity from landfill gasses, staff are investigating the potential applications of solar power, ground source heating, cogeneration and district energy.
