10 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday February 28, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com Former international sailing chief at Boaters' Symposium Paul Henderson, the former head of the International Sailing Federation (ISAF), is the keynote speaker at the Boaters' Symposium on March 7. "His long experience heading up the International Sailing Federation (ISAF), on top of his years of successful competitive sailing in a variety (of) international events and classes, has provided Paul with a truly unique view of the sailing world," said Richard O'Hare, chair of the Oakville Harbours Advisory Committee. "We know that our Oakville boating community will find his presentation both informative and entertaining." Henderson's career has spanned virtually every facet of the sport. In the '60s, '70s and '80s he successfully competed in a variety of classes including Finn's, International 14's, Flying Dutchman, Stars, Albacores and Solings. These regattas included international events ranging from North American championships, through world Championships, up to and including representing Canada in two Olympic Games. Henderson later served for 10 years as president of the ISAF, the international body that co-ordinates and adjudicates all aspects of sailing world-wide, from wind surfing to the America's Cup challenges. While his hand was on the helm, the ISAF was faced with maintaining a steady, balanced course during a period that saw numerous challenges caused by the high rate of growth in the sport itself, and in the technology and commercialism that went along with it. Henderson is known in the Toronto/GTA region for having headed up the unsuccessful 1996 Olympic Games bid entered by the City of Toronto. The Boaters' Symposium is being held at Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Road. Doors to the exhibit area open at 6 p.m and the speaker's program starts at 7 p.m. Paul Henderson www.oakvillebeaver.com KEEPING SENIORS INFORMED Our LivingWell Events are Open to the Public KITCHENS BATHROOMS WALL UNITS FREE ESTIMATES CUSTOM DESIGNS CUSTOM FINISHES QUALIFIED DESIGNERS Cabinet Concepts 905-632-0029 Unique EXPERIENCED INSTALLERS Doing It Right Since 1976 4150 South Service Road, Burlington www.uniquecabinetconcepts.com SWIMWEAR Wa r e h o u se HUGE SAVINGS SALE 80 UP TO % off!!!
