The Blades hammered Mississauga 8-1 Monday at Port Credit Arena to seize a 3-0 lead in the teams' Provincial Junior A Hockey League first-round playoff series, in the process likely snuffing out any sort of upset hopes the overmatched Chargers might have had. Oakville quickly jumped on the Chargers, who finished 47 points behind the Blades in regular-season play, scoring a pair of goals 27 seconds apart early in the first period. The Blades then broke the game open in the third frame, adding five unanswered markers. "We decided from the start that we'd go out and send a message," said Blades forward Brandon DeFazio, who niftily set up two of Chase Langeraap's three goals in the contest. "We wanted to take their confidence away early." Trevor Elliott, who scored twice for Oakville, added, "We had to come out strong and show them they don't belong in this series. We wanted to send a message for next game, too." That game, Game 4, is scheduled for Friday at Dominion Twin Rinks (7:30 p.m. start) as the Blades look to conclude the first-round sweep. The series has been a bit of a coming-out party for Oakville's recent acquisitions, most notably Brent Clarke. The former Quebec Major Junior Hockey League player recorded five points in both Game 2 -- a 7-3 Oakville win -- and Game 3.
